Continuing my theme of moving backwards in time, I just ordered an old fashioned "safety razor" over the internet. It actually gives a better shave than today's multi blade razors. Funny what marketing can convince the public... four, five blades? Ridiculous...

So your saying I should pull my Grandfather’s shaving kit out of whatever drawer it is hiding in invest in new blades and convert?

How well I remember...
The secret to great shaving with the old razors was in the brush bristles (badger?) and soap. Lots of hot water and the right soap, Williams comes to mind - you keep working it in until the beard is soft. Somewhere in this place, I have a straight razor..
Nah, I'll make a real mess with that.

Just today, I've decided to track down a straight razor!!!

I have gone through about 4 electrics in the last 10 years and I didn't like ANY of them.

I was just tired of throwing out a like piece of plastic every week, plus the triple bladed crap used to really shred my face.

I've been told by the last remaining Italian barber in town that the key to a good shave with no nicks with a straight razor is getting a strop.

When I blinked questioningly, he said I could just find a really wide, old leather belt and use the back as a strop.

And he also recommends Williams soap or an olive oil based soap.
